Major Writing 1

1. The key difference between non-academic and academic sources?
2. Where are we supposed to find the academic sources compared to non-academic?
3. What type of information are we supposed to give about the discipline of our interest?

We are to find several different types of writing that is done in the field that we'll be joining at the end of our education. Furthermore, we are supposed to discern the differences between someone who's teaching the class as to someone who is doing work in the field or conducting research. We are supposed to write approximately five pages, while using six different sources. The way we are supposed to site all six sources are with the format of APA instead of MLA. By doing this writing, we are supposed to learn the different types of writing in our future fields.

To the assignments that I've had in my English classes; and of those that I remember doing, none were close to this type of an assignment. Everything I've done in almost every class that had writing was argumentatively based. The one assignment that was similar to this was one that we had in French 5, which is approximately either French 3 or 4 at the University of Iowa. We were tasked to write about what our plans were after high school, and if we were going onto college what we'd be studying. Besides that assignment I don't believe I've ever done anything to this format of writing. For the most part I'm going to think of like an argumentative paper that has thesis and you have three points that you're going to be making in each paragraph using some said evidence that is used in academic and nonacademic based forms.
